The function of the insulating cardboard is to insulate the inside of the transformer and prevent the internal discharge of the transformer. Because the internal insulation of oil-immersed transformers is oil paper, that is, transformer oil insulation cardboard, the reason why these two materials are used as the main insulation material is because the dielectric coefficients of the two materials are not much different. The two insulators are inherently insulating, but if the dielectric coefficients are different, there will still be a reaction.

What is the insulating cardboard in the transformer?
Cardboard is a solid insulating material.

There are the following types.

1. Insulating paper: The insulating paper mentioned here refers to pure kraft paper, and other insulating papers include synthetic fiber paper (such as Nomex paper) and nitrile insulating paper (such as Denison paper).

2. Corrugated insulating paper: made of corrugated insulating paper for electricians. It has pleats across the side, and the pleats open when stretched. Due to different creping procedures, crepe papers with different elongation can be made. The thickness of insulating paper is generally 0.05mm~0.12mm, and the elongation is 5%~200%. Corrugated insulating paper is often used for winding insulation of oil-immersed transformers, such as winding heads.

3. Denison paper: Modified insulating paper is called nitrile paper. During the manufacturing process, dinitroamide, vinyl cyanide, etc. added to the pulp. It is produced by American Denison Corporation. It is characterized by good mechanical cyanation and proper elongation after wrinkling and calendering. It is an ideal material for inter-turn insulation of large transformer windings. Use it to wrap the transposed wire, which can ensure that it is wrapped tightly and will not expand.

Paper: heat-resistant synthetic fiber paper from DuPont. Nomex is the trade name for this fiber paper. The main component of Nomex is aromatic polyamide, which has good heat aging properties. It can be used for a long time at 220°C and belongs to Class C insulating material.

5. Tape: Divided into single-sided tape, double-sided tape, diamond tape. Tape type It is made of 0.07mm roll paper, coated with phenolic resin or epoxy resin, baked and dried.

6. Metallized paper: used for grounding shielding and electrostatic shielding. The bottom paper is 0.2mm thick insulating paper, the thickness of aluminum foil is 0.02mm, and the wires are insulated with insulating screens.

7. Insulation board: made of kraft wood pulp. Used for oil gap pads, diaphragms, cardboard tubes, corrugated paper, yoke insulation, clamp insulation, pie-winding end insulation press plates.

8. Insulating materials for transformer binding: insulating materials for transformer binding include cotton tape, bandage, semi-dry thin steel wire tape, semi-dry latitude-free mesh tape, glass cloth tape, polyester rope, etc.

Glass varnish: Glass varnish is made by soaking alkali-free glass cloth in insulating varnish for electricians and baking. Suitable for dry-type transformers.
