Application Of Polyamide in Wire And Cable

Sep 01, 2022

Polyamide is a kind of long chain polymer material, commonly known as nylon, which is connected by many structural units consisting of amide group and several methylene or other cycloalkyl and aromatic groups. The main varieties are nylon 6, nylon 66, nylon 610, nylon 9 and nylon 1010.

Nylon 66, nylon 610 and nylon 1010 are commonly used in wires and cables. They are mainly used as the protective layer of extruded wires to replace the cotton yarn woven wax layer of wires for aircraft, automobiles and tractors. The wires made of the above unit nylon have poor flexibility. In order to improve this defect, binary or ternary copolymer nylon is developed. For this kind of wire with large size (10mm2), the polyamide fiber braided coating with polyamide paint is mostly used to improve the flexibility of the wire and facilitate the installation and laying of the wire.

In addition to using polyamide fiber as the braided protective layer of wires, polyamide rope (nylon rope) is also commonly used as the reinforcing core of cables (such as elevator cables) to replace steel wire rope.
