Description
Nomex 410, the raw material for Nomex® insulating paper, is well-received worldwide due to its ideal balance of properties and its mature and stable performance in military applications.
For over 50 years, Nomex® 410 has met the growing requirements of the electrical industry and is the insulating material for most electrical equipment applications today.
The most patented insulation paper in the Nomex 400 series, Nomex 410, is today the absolute benchmark product for performance, reliability and longevity against which all other insulation materials are compared*** .
The patented properties of Nomex 410, and the rest of the Nomex 400 family, result from an ideal balance of five key properties:
Excellent Thermal Stability - Temperatures up to 200°C have little or no effect on Nomex's electrical and mechanical properties, retaining its value even at considerably higher temperatures. Furthermore, these excellent properties are maintained even when exposed to 220°C for at least 10 years of continuous operation.
Excellent Mechanical Toughness — Reinforced Nomex products are strong and resilient while resisting tearing and abrasion. Thinner grades also provide flexibility.
Intrinsic Dielectric Strength — In reinforced products, Nomex is capable of withstanding 18 kV/mm (457 mil) to 40 kV/mm (1,015 mil) for short periods of time without painting or resin treatment, depending on the type and thickness of the product electrical stress.
Excellent chemical compatibility - Nomex® is basically unaffected by most solvents and has unusual resistance to acid and alkali corrosion. It is compatible with all types of paints and adhesives, transformer oils, lubricants and refrigerants.
Excellent Flame Retardancy - Nomex products will not melt and will not burn at 220°C with a Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) above 20.8 (typically the threshold for combustion in air).
Nomex 410 is used in nearly all sheet insulation applications. This high-density product has inherently high dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flex resistance and resilience. Its product thickness ranges from 0.05 mm (2 mil) to 0.76 mm (30 mil) and specific gravity ranges from 0.7 to 1.2.
